I am sincerely grateful to President Chi-Hung Lin, and Vice Secretary General Professor Jen-Tzung Chien and the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Committee for Honorary Doctorates for having selected me to receive this prestigious honor.
From now on three industries will form the most important lifeline in this world: AI, green energy, and especially semiconductors.
Taiwan is now the world leader in the semiconductor industry, the most important commodity, and has surpassed the once-strong US, Europe, Japan, and mainland China. Until the 20th century, all industries were supported by the strategic commodity of “oil”. However, for the next 100 years, “semiconductors” will replace oil to support the overall world. Outstanding contributors to the development of this semiconductor industry in Taiwan are Mr. Morris Chang, the most impressive entrepreneur and NYCU, which has generated great semiconductor entrepreneurs and CEOs in Taiwan.
It is said that Taiwan is extremely geopolitically unstable between the U.S. and China, but I firmly believe that Taiwan has an extremely promising future. I believe Taiwan and Japan should establish the most friendly Asian democratic country alliance, and that Taiwan will become the world’s top leading nation near future. Taiwan’s higher education, represented by NYCU, is the foundation of Taiwan’s future. I would like to thank all the brilliant colleagues and students who have enabled me to reach this very success that I am being honored for today.
